Clearer upfront prices for shoppers

Illinois law generally requires businesses to include mandatory fees in advertised prices. A fee counts as mandatory when it is required, hard to avoid, or reasonably expected as part of the purchase; taxes and other charges required by law are excluded. Food delivery platforms must show delivery costs, other fees, selected-item totals, and an itemized subtotal before checkout. Restaurants and hotels must state automatic gratuity percentages in price ads, while variable-price services, auctions, and some communications or financial transactions follow special disclosure rules. The law helps shoppers see costs sooner, but it does not lower prices.
