Schools must send you a notice before your child’s individualized education program (IEP) meeting. The notice explains your right to invite others, like people with special expertise or an advocate. It asks you to tell the school ahead of time if you plan to bring guests so the school can accommodate them. The State Board of Education prepares a short handout on IEP facilitation and how to request it. Schools must share this handout with parents the same way they send other IEP papers.
