Wastewater deals for nearby businesses

The Decatur and Bloomington-Normal sanitary districts can now make deals with nearby private businesses and farms. They can sell treated wastewater and accept privately generated wastewater for treatment. The site must be within 50 miles of the district. Contracts can run up to 30 years, and the boards set the terms and prices. The districts may buy or accept land or property rights needed to run these services.

Only Illinois firms can use wastewater deals

These authorities do not apply to companies located outside Illinois. Only in-state private entities can get contracts to buy treated wastewater or send wastewater for treatment.
