Add your parent to your health plan

In Illinois, group or individual plans with dependent coverage must let you add a parent or stepparent. The parent must meet the federal "qualifying relative" test and live in your plan’s service area. This applies to policies issued, amended, delivered, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026. It does not apply to student health plans, Medicare supplement, hospital-only, accident-only, or specified disease policies.
