Easier birth control at Illinois public colleges

Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, Illinois public colleges with student health services must give students access to providers who can prescribe and dispense contraception. Access can be at the campus health center, by telehealth, or through outside licensed providers the school arranges. If the campus runs a pharmacy, it must dispense contraception to enrolled students. The student health website must explain how to get medication contraception on campus. Each year, the school reports compliance to the Illinois Board of Higher Education, which posts results online.

Medication abortion access on Illinois campuses

Beginning with the 2025-2026 school year, public colleges with student health services must give students access to providers who can prescribe medication abortion. If the campus has a pharmacy, medication abortion must be available at a physical location on campus, such as the pharmacy or student health center. Students may also fill prescriptions off campus. The student health website must explain how to access medication abortion on campus, including telehealth and outside providers. Each year, the school reports compliance to the Illinois Board of Higher Education, which posts results online.
