Tax-time enrollment for uninsured Illinoisans

Illinois now offers a special enrollment period through its Health Benefits Exchange. You must be uninsured and have requested health insurance information through the easy enrollment program under the Illinois Income Tax Act. The Exchange sends you a letter estimating if you qualify for Medicaid, federal premium tax credits, or cost-sharing reductions. You and any eligible dependents have 60 days from the letter date to choose a plan. Coverage starts the first day of the next month after you select a plan. State agencies can set rules and forms to run this process.
