Stronger pool safety and design rules

The Department writes and updates statewide rules for swimming pools. Rules cover pool design, aquatic play features, and attached areas. They set standards for sanitation, plumbing, water, sewage, and trash. They address building and equipment design, pest control, and disease control. The rules include steps to prevent swimmers from being trapped or tangled at new and existing pools. Pool owners and operators must follow these rules. Other state agencies can help the Department carry them out.

Pools must offer changing rooms and showers

Pools must provide dressing rooms, toilets, and showers for patrons. The Department can allow exceptions in its rules. Owners and operators are responsible for making these facilities available.
