Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Seasonal farm commercial license, 180 days

Illinois offers a restricted commercial driver license for farm‑related service workers. It is seasonal and may not total more than 180 days in any 12‑month period. Rules follow federal guidelines. This option has been available since January 1, 1994.

Permit required to drive school buses

School bus drivers must hold a School Bus Driver’s Permit. The Secretary of State sets the rules to issue and cancel permits. The permit confirms you met all screening rules in Section 6‑106.1. You need this permit even if you have a CDL with a passenger endorsement or a properly classified license. This has been required since July 1, 1995.

Stricter rules for commercial drivers

The Illinois Secretary of State sets licensing and penalty rules for commercial drivers. The rules align with federal law and later federal updates, and the state can require stricter standards than the federal minimums. These state rules are in place beginning January 1, 2015.
