Student board members get $500 per semester

The student member of the Illinois Board of Higher Education gets a $500 scholarship each semester while enrolled and serving. The student member of the State Board for Community Colleges also gets $500 per semester while enrolled and serving. The payment goes to the school, not the student. It can pay tuition, fees, books, and supplies.

Board members serve unpaid; expenses reimbursed

Members of the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the State Board for Community Colleges serve without pay. The law pays back their actual and necessary travel and other costs. Reimbursement applies only when they are doing official board work.
