Parents: schools get holiday scheduling guidance

The State Board of Education identifies observances that may conflict with major school events. It consults stakeholders each year. By July 1 each year, the Board posts the list online and sends it to every district and relevant groups. The list covers at least the school year that begins in the next calendar year and urges schools to avoid conflicts. It is guidance only and does not change a student’s right to be excused for religious observance under Section 26-2b, even if not listed. Districts may add local dates based on community feedback.
