New rules for siluriformes fish businesses

The law brings siluriformes fish under state food-safety rules. Any product with 3% or more raw siluriformes fish, or more than 2% cooked, is now regulated as an amenable food. Businesses that bring siluriformes fish into an official plant for wholesale must follow federal rules (9 CFR 530–561) for inspection, handling, storage, preparation, packaging, marking, and labeling. Shoppers get stronger safety and labeling checks. Businesses face added compliance steps and costs.
