Kansas bans ranked-choice voting statewide

The law bans any form of ranked-choice voting for elections and nominations in Kansas. It applies to federal, state, county, and city offices. Ranked-choice voting means ranking two or more candidates and counting in rounds until someone gets a majority. Any local ordinances, resolutions, or rules that allowed ranked-choice voting and were adopted before July 1, 2025 are now void. The law takes effect upon publication in the Kansas Register.
