Higher penalties for environmental rule violations

Louisiana raises penalty caps for minor or moderate environmental violations handled through its expedited enforcement program. The maximum rises from $3,000 to $5,000 per violation, and from $5,000 to $10,000 total per violator. These are limits, not automatic charges for every person or business cited. The secretary can set program rules, authorize citations with penalties and compliance deadlines, and assign staff to run it. These enforcement actions are exempt from the state's specified legal-review requirement.
