Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Career Counseling for Long-Term Foster Youth

Beginning October 1, 2027, Louisiana Works must provide vocational testing and college and job counseling at every regional office. These services are for people in long-term foster care. Services begin at the youngest age judged appropriate for each person to understand the information. The law makes this requirement dependent on enactment of House Bill 624 of the 2025 Regular Session.

Expanded Screening for Child Services Workers

Louisiana’s Department of Children and Family Services can check criminal histories of current and prospective employees, contractors, and subcontractors. The department secretary must issue rules for these checks. Checks must follow the procedures in state law.

Education Department Fixes Child-Care Payment Errors

Louisiana’s Department of Education replaces Children and Family Services as the agency responsible for correcting child-care assistance payment errors. It must promptly fix overpayments and underpayments under the Child Care and Development Block Grant. Families owed assistance may get more help, while correcting overpayments may include collecting money.
