More sheriff retirees qualify for paid insurance

The law expands paid insurance eligibility for Jefferson Davis Parish sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire from the office. It covers those hired on or after July 1, 2018, who qualify for Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund benefits. They need at least 12 years with the office toward the required 15 years of service. They must also be at least 55 or have retired with at least 30 years of service at any age. The sheriff's general fund pays their full premiums for group hospital, surgical, and medical coverage, plus the first $10,000 of life insurance.
