More insurer employees qualify for licensing exemption

Beginning August 1, 2025, Louisiana raises an adjuster licensing exemption threshold from $500 to $2,000 for insurer employees. It applies to first-party claims—claims under the policyholder's own property and casualty insurance. Employees can adjust losses of $2,000 or less without an adjuster license. They can also authorize claim payments without that license when the claim's specified coverage limit is $2,000 or less.

New law-update training for insurance professionals

Beginning August 1, 2025, Louisiana adds required training on changes in insurance law without increasing total required training hours. Producers and consultants with combined producer–consultant licenses or covered multiple-line license combinations must complete at least 2 law-update hours before renewal. Their total stays at 24 hours, including at least 3 ethics hours. Property, casualty, and personal-lines training also keeps its requirement for at least 3 flood-insurance hours. Adjusters and public adjusters who are not exempt must also complete at least 2 law-update hours within their 24-hour minimum. Their training includes ethics and is reported every two years with license renewal.
