Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Retired court reporters can keep pension checks

Certain Parochial Employees’ Retirement System retirees can keep retirement benefits while earning full-time court reporter pay. They must be over age 65 and have been retired for at least three years. The job must be covered by that retirement system. The employing parish or judicial district must have an identified critical shortage of court reporters. During eligible reemployment, benefits continue even after the usual 1,040-hour limit.

Employers owe pension contributions for rehired reporters

Employers that rehire retired court reporters under this exception must pay employer contributions to the Parochial Employees’ Retirement System. The law does not specify the contribution amount.
