Donated outdoor licenses for disabled veterans

Beginning August 1, 2025, license-purchase donations fund hunting and fishing licenses for disabled veterans through a dedicated state account. The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Foundation Escrow Account also pays for commemorative durable cards showing license information. Aside from administrative costs capped at 10%, account money is reserved for these purchases. Unspent, uncommitted money stays in the account after each fiscal year. The state treasurer invests it under the same rules as state general fund money. Veterans receive this help when account funds purchase their licenses; the law does not guarantee every disabled veteran a license.

Veterans and seniors get outdoor license options

Beginning August 1, 2025, qualifying Louisiana residents who are honorably discharged veterans can get annual hunting and fishing licenses for $20. This includes qualifying Louisiana Army and Air National Guard veterans. Retired service members also qualify for a $20 annual license if born in Louisiana or living there as bona fide residents. Applicants must show identification and eligibility records; DD-214 or NGB-22 records are accepted as proof. Resident senior annual licenses are free for those who turned 60 before June 1, 2000. They cost $5 for those who turned 60 from June 1, 2000, through May 31, 2022. Residents turning 65 on or after June 1, 2027, pay $20 annually. The law also offers eligible resident seniors and veterans a $20 annual combination license covering all hunting, fishing, and wildlife management area access privileges.
