Within 60 days after the law takes effect, the Norfolk County Retirement System asks the state Public Employee Retirement Administration Commission’s tax counsel to confirm this plan follows federal tax rules. The retirement system must give all documents needed for that review. The purchase option only takes effect after a favorable letter from that tax counsel. Within 60 days after that letter, the system tells eligible members what they can buy and what it costs. You then have 120 days to pay in one lump sum or sign an installment plan.
