State sells Stoneham land for ramp

The law lets the Massachusetts Department of Transportation sell a state parcel in Stoneham to Wakefield Investments, Inc. The land is part of Parcel 2-31, about 12,500 square feet, landlocked next to 100 Maple Street, taken in 1958 for highway use. The sale supports rebuilding the I-93 northbound off-ramp to Montvale Avenue and Maple Street. The buyer must pay full fair market value based on an independent appraisal, and the parcel is sold “as is, where is, with all faults.” The buyer must also pay all costs, including engineering, surveys, layout changes, recording, appraisals, and deed prep. The Inspector General reviews and approves the appraisals and issues a report that the Secretary must send to key legislative committees at least 15 days before signing the deal. The sale is allowed even if other laws would normally block it.
