Lexington creates nonprofit for affordable housing

The law creates the Lexington Housing Assistance Board, Inc. (LexHAB) as an independent 501(c)(3) housing charity. LexHAB can own and manage property and run housing efforts for the Lexington community. If LexHAB is ever dissolved, all of its property, assets, and rights transfer to the Town of Lexington or a town‑chosen 501(c)(3) housing nonprofit. The assets must be used only for charitable purposes. Title vests automatically in the Town, and the Select Board takes over LexHAB’s powers for those assets.
