State can take Norwood Hospital to keep care

This emergency law lets the state’s capital asset division take the Norwood Hospital land at 800 Washington Street by eminent domain, if funded. It can also take nearby parcels owned by MPT of Norwood-Steward, LLC when needed to keep care available. After the taking, control moves to the Department of Public Health. The department can sell, lease, or convey the land to a qualified nonprofit hospital operator to ensure access to health care. It can do this even if other real estate rules would normally limit such transfers.
