Six towns decide Great River district
The law requires Bernardston, Gill, Leyden, Northfield, Warwick, and Montague to put a binding question on the next annual or special town election ballot after passage. Voters decide whether to create the Great River Regional School District. If a majority in each of the six towns votes yes, the district starts right away and includes all six towns. If Warwick voters do not approve, but the other approval rules are met, the district starts with Bernardston, Gill, Leyden, Northfield, and Montague, and excludes Warwick. A new district can change how schools are run and how towns share school costs.
