Email notices for towed vehicle owners

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland allows email notices for parking-lot tows and abandoned vehicles taken into police custody. The Motor Vehicle Administration sends these notices to the email address the owner provided to the agency. If the owner does not respond within 7 days after the email is sent, mailed notice is required. The tow company or police must send certified mail, return receipt requested, and first-class mail. For abandoned vehicles, police must also post notice under existing rules when email is unacknowledged or returned undeliverable.
