Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Hourly school workers get wage-recovery opportunities

Beginning July 1, 2025, Anne Arundel County’s school board must offer hourly-paid employees other duties to make up lost wages. This applies when its alternative schedule reduces a school year below 180 days. The opportunity must be offered before the next school year starts. The law does not guarantee a specific amount of recovered pay. This protection ends June 30, 2027, unless lawmakers extend it.

Anne Arundel schools gain flexible schedules

Beginning July 1, 2025, Anne Arundel County’s school board can eliminate early-dismissal days and schedule fewer than 180 school days. Schools must still meet minimum annual attendance hours under state rules in effect July 1, 2025. If chosen, this schedule must apply to every county school. The board must report on its use, including daily attendance hours, by June 30, 2026, and June 30, 2027. This authority ends June 30, 2027, unless lawmakers extend it.
