Maryland drivers face longer emergency toll changes

Beginning October 1, 2025, the Maryland Transportation Authority can keep emergency toll and fee changes in place longer. The limit rises from 180 to 300 days, covering tolls, fees, mileage rates, pricing periods, and toll zones. This process applies when normal review would prevent compliance with bond agreements, or unexpected events threaten facility operations. Temporary changes can start immediately, but the Authority must post notice online and immediately begin public review and comment. The changes end when emergency status expires; the law sets no toll amount and requires no increase.
