Vintage plates stay available for drivers

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland removes the former one-year sales limit and requires vintage reproduction plates to remain available. The plates must resemble Maryland’s black-on-yellow 1910 plates. Eligible vehicles are Class A passenger vehicles, Class E trucks rated at 1 ton or less, Class L historic vehicles, Class M multipurpose vehicles, and Class N street rods. Owners and lessees whose leases are not used as loan security can apply for vehicles approved by the Motor Vehicle Administration. Directors, officers, employees, and partners of businesses that own eligible vehicles can also apply.

Drivers pay extra for vintage plates

Beginning October 1, 2025, owners assigned vintage reproduction plates pay a one-time $100 issuance fee and $25 at each renewal. These charges are in addition to the standard annual registration fee. The fees cover the Motor Vehicle Administration’s program costs and support the Gasoline and Motor Vehicle Revenue Account.
