Longer Maryland scholarships with tighter eligibility rules

Beginning July 1, 2025, Maryland Community College Promise Scholarships have revised time limits and ongoing eligibility rules. The limit is 3 years after first enrollment in qualifying noncredit vocational certificates, certificates, licensure or certification courses, apprenticeship-related courses, or full-time associate’s degree study. Part-time associate’s degree students have a 6-year limit after first enrollment. Awards end at the applicable time limit or when students earn an associate’s degree, whichever comes first. Extensions for study interruptions are available with evidence of extenuating circumstances satisfactory to the community college. Recipients must remain eligible for in-state tuition, meet income limits, and submit applications on time. They must enroll in and complete at least 6 credits each semester, take qualifying licensure or certification courses, or continue a registered apprenticeship. They must also make satisfactory progress toward a vocational certificate, certificate, or associate’s degree. For required credit-bearing coursework, they must maintain a cumulative 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale, or equivalent, unless they provide satisfactory evidence of extenuating circumstances.
