Frederick County worker and volunteer background checks

Beginning October 1, 2025, Frederick County’s Human Resources Director can request state and national criminal record checks. This covers current and prospective county employees and volunteers. The Director must submit two complete, legible fingerprint sets on forms approved by Maryland’s Central Repository and the FBI. The Director must also submit required Maryland and FBI fees; the law does not specify amounts. The Central Repository must send the records to both the person checked and the Director. Records are confidential, cannot be shared further, and can be used only for authorized personnel matters. People checked can challenge their printed records, and the county’s governing body must adopt guidelines to carry out the law.
