Free Purple Line rides for nearby residents

People living within one-quarter mile (0.25 miles) of the Purple Line track get free rides on Purple Line vehicles. Free rides last for the first month after Purple Line service begins. The law takes effect October 1, 2025; that date does not start the free-ride month. The Maryland Transit Administration must create and run the program and adopt rules to carry out the law.

Free promotion for nearby small businesses

Beginning October 1, 2025, the Maryland Transit Administration must provide free promotional materials and services to eligible small businesses. Businesses must be within one-quarter mile (0.25 miles) of the Purple Line track. They must meet the small-business definition in Maryland State Government Article §2–1505.2. Help continues until three months after Purple Line service begins. The Administration must use only available internal resources, including its websites and printing and design services. The law does not require it to buy private advertising or marketing services.
