New agency notices for housing tax credits

Beginning June 1, 2025, Maryland’s housing department must report qualifying low-income housing tax credit awards to the state assessment agency. This covers commercial property developed under Section 42 of the federal tax code. Notice is due within 30 days after closing and the required agreement governing the credit is signed and delivered. The rule applies to tax years beginning after June 30, 2025. It supports property tax assessments without creating a direct household benefit or a new reporting duty for property owners.
