Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Election judge pay minimums and limits

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland election judges get at least $250 for each Election Day or early voting day worked. Returning judges get at least $350 daily, and at least $100 more than non-returning judges. Returning judges must have served a term for the immediately preceding statewide election. Each completed required training course pays at least $50, but local boards cannot pay until the judge works a voting day. Compensation includes transportation and training stipends and bonus payments. Counties must fund the minimums; local boards can pay more within county funding limits. The State Board of Elections reimburses local boards $50 of the extra compensation required for returning judges.

Student election judges choose pay or credit

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland public school students serving as election judges must choose between pay and service-learning hours. The hours count toward the service-learning graduation requirement. Students cannot receive both the hours and election judge pay for that service.
