Faster Maryland certification for dental radiation workers

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland’s dental board must certify qualifying out-of-state dental radiation technologists within 15 business days. The clock starts when the board receives a complete application. Applicants must be authorized to practice in another state, pay the required fee, and show they meet Maryland’s qualifications. They must also meet an out-of-state exam requirement that the board finds comparable to Maryland’s. Applicants cannot be under disciplinary investigation, have prior discipline for conduct warranting Maryland discipline, or have previously failed a Maryland certification exam.

Faster Maryland licenses for out-of-state dental professionals

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland’s dental board must license qualifying out-of-state dentists and dental hygienists within 15 business days. The clock starts when the board receives a complete application. Applicants must hold another state’s license, provide proof of qualifications, and pay the required application fee. Dentists can qualify by passing the American Dental Licensing Examination and Maryland’s dental law exam. Their alternative route requires averaging at least 850 practice hours yearly over the prior five years. It also requires a prior state licensing exam with a clinical component, the ADEX written exam, and Maryland’s dental law exam. Hygienists can qualify by passing the American Dental Hygiene Licensing Examination and Maryland’s dental hygiene law exam. Their alternative route requires averaging at least 150 practice hours yearly over the prior three years. It also requires a prior state licensing exam with a clinical component, the ADEX written exam, and Maryland’s dental hygiene law exam. Applicants cannot be under disciplinary investigation, have prior discipline for conduct warranting Maryland discipline, or have previously failed a Maryland licensing exam.
