Students can return to former care placements

Beginning July 1, 2025, eligible students can return to an out-of-home placement provider where they previously lived. Students must attend an accredited college or university, or a residential vocational training program. They must be unable to stay on campus because of a scheduled break, temporary closure, or temporary leave of absence. The student, provider, and provider agency must agree to the arrangement, and Maryland's Department of Human Services must approve. For scheduled breaks, students must submit requests to the local department at least 30 days before the break. The local department must send its recommendation at least 21 days before the break. If it recommends approval, the state department must decide at least 14 days before the break.
