Health coverage help for child care workers

Beginning October 1, 2025, the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange must help child care professionals find Exchange or Medicaid coverage. It must also help them find other insurance when they lose Medicaid. The Exchange must ensure plan options meet child care workers’ and employers’ budgets and coverage needs. It must work with the State Department of Education, prekindergarten provider hubs, child care associations, and relevant nonprofits. Outreach must include flyers, webinars, in-person events, and other materials for the child care community. The Exchange must survey health care access, consulting the education department and relevant nonprofits, with special focus on providers accepting child care scholarship vouchers. The law does not guarantee coverage or change who qualifies.
