Families on cash assistance keep more support

Starting October 1, 2025, families receiving Maryland’s Family Investment Program (FIP) assistance keep a growing share of collected child support. This money does not reduce their FIP payment. Through fiscal year 2027, families keep the first $100 monthly for one child or $200 for two or more children. In fiscal year 2028, they keep the greater of that dollar amount or 25% of monthly support collected. That share rises to 50% in fiscal year 2029 and 75% in fiscal year 2030, with the same dollar minimums. Families never receive more child support than is collected. Beginning in fiscal year 2031, families keep all monthly child support collected without reducing their FIP payment.
