Montgomery County adds student bus-stop safeguards

The law takes effect July 1, 2025, with bus-stop safety rules starting December 31, 2028, only in Montgomery County. The rules cover new school bus stops on highways with five or more undivided traffic lanes. They apply where drivers traveling opposite the stop received at least 400 citations in the previous fiscal year. These stops are prohibited unless a school crossing guard helps students cross the highway or a traffic control device keeps a red signal while a student boards or leaves the bus.
