Free required training for barbers and cosmetologists

Beginning January 1, 2026, Maryland barber and cosmetology license applicants must complete domestic violence awareness training. This includes barber-stylist, esthetician, hair services, blow-drying, and nail technician licenses. Training lasts at least one hour, is free, and must be available in person and online. Maryland's Department of Labor approves programs teaching warning signs, starting conversations, listening to victims, and connecting them with support. People holding covered licenses issued before October 1, 2025, must complete the training only for their next renewal.
