Licensed auctioneers get boat dealer exemption

Beginning July 1, 2025, Maryland exempts qualifying licensed auctioneers from the State Boat Act’s dealer rules. They must act for a seller, secured party, or owner, without taking title to the boat. The auction must not be intended to avoid the Act. Yacht brokers and lienholders selling boats under Maryland’s lien law, including lien and recovery companies, remain covered as dealers.
