More benefits help for Maryland veterans

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland’s veterans department must help veterans, service members, and dependents access benefits they qualify for. Its Communications, Outreach, and Advocacy Program helps with tax, health, disability, and pension benefits, including benefit steps and referrals. It must reach people needing help, share welcome-home information with returning veterans and service members, and develop tools to identify possible applicants. Education and training benefit help is provided with the Maryland Higher Education Commission. Maryland also adopts the federal definition of “veteran” for this part of state law, unless it states otherwise.
