Veterinary workers gain student loan repayment help

Beginning July 1, 2025, Maryland’s Janet L. Hoffman Loan Assistance Repayment Program includes eligible veterinarians and veterinary technicians. Applicants need a degree from an accredited veterinary college or university. They must have provided veterinary services as an employee in Maryland for at least five years. Alternatively, they must volunteer at a qualifying Maryland animal shelter for at least 100 hours yearly for at least three years. Qualifying shelters are locally owned, handle animal control under a local government contract, or received state Spay and Neuter Grants Program funds the prior year. Applicants also need eligible employment and total income, including other income sources, below the Office of Student Financial Assistance’s limit. The Office sets additional eligibility rules. The law does not specify award amounts.
