Hagerstown sports facility gets property tax exemption

The law takes effect June 1, 2025, and applies to taxable years beginning after June 30, 2025. Property owned by The Hagerstown Multi-Use Sports and Events Facility, Inc. is exempt from property tax. The property must mainly serve public social, recreational, and entertainment purposes. The facility can instead make optional payments to Washington County or Hagerstown, covering all or part of the facility. Any payment amount requires mutual agreement; the law does not require tax savings to reach facility users.

Washington County loses business tax credit authority

For taxable years beginning after June 30, 2025, Washington County loses authority to grant this business property tax credit. The credit covered county property taxes on real estate owned or leased by qualifying businesses. Removing that authority ends a potential tax break, but the law does not identify any business that received it.
