Permanent medical tint exemptions for Maryland owners

Beginning October 1, 2025, Maryland medical window-tint certifications can remain valid indefinitely. A Maryland-licensed doctor must certify the owner's medical need and find that the condition is permanent. The Maryland State Police's Automotive Safety Enforcement Division issues the certification for tint that lets through less than 35% of light. For nonpermanent conditions, the doctor sets the certification's length, up to 2 years. Owners must keep the written certification in the vehicle when stopped by police.
