Beginning October 1, 2025, the law ends Charles County’s Gaming Permit Review Board and transfers duties to the County Attorney. Fundraising groups must send applications and fees to the attorney at least 30 days before the event’s calendar quarter starts. The attorney reviews applications within 10 days after that deadline and recommends approval or denial; earlier reviews are allowed. County commissioners retain permit approval, fee-setting, gaming-device rules, investigation powers, and rulemaking, but may delegate duties to the attorney. The law sets no new fee amount. Groups must file reports within 30 days after the event’s calendar quarter ends, detailing each receipt and expense. The attorney may require additional application and report information. Groups must keep accurate transaction records available for county review for 3 years after the event. Groups may lease gaming devices or event premises only from fundraising organizations approved by the attorney. At the Charles County Fair, one permit can cover more than 48 hours under county rules recommended by the attorney.
