Students can return to former placements

Beginning July 1, 2025, eligible Maryland students can return to an out-of-home placement provider they previously lived with. This covers students enrolled in accredited higher education or residential vocational training who cannot stay on campus. The reason must be a scheduled break, temporary closure, or temporary leave of absence. The student, provider, and provider agency must agree, and the Maryland Department of Human Services must approve the request. For scheduled breaks, students must submit a written request to the local department at least 30 days before the break. The local department must send its recommendation at least 21 days before the break. If it recommends approval, the state Department must decide at least 14 days before the break.
