Dorchester businesses gain tasting options with fees

Beginning July 1, 2025, Dorchester County Class A license holders can get a new beer, wine, and liquor tasting license. Tastings must be free, held on the licensed premises, and limited to beverages the business is authorized to sell. Annual fees are $150 for up to 15 tastings or $250 for up to 30 tastings. Each person’s beer limit is 3 ounces per offering and 8 ounces per day. Wine limits are 1 ounce per offering and 4 ounces per person daily. Liquor limits are 0.5 ounce per offering and 1.5 ounces per person daily. Businesses must notify the county licensing Board in writing at least 7 days before each event. At day’s end, they must dispose of any beverages left in containers opened for tasting. Applicants must use the Board’s form, and the Board cannot require publication of the application. The Board can approve a license without a public hearing. After an initial denial, applicants can reapply and request a hearing, which the Board must hold before deciding. The tasting license renews with the Class A license.
