Boat warning labels required without department penalties

Beginning October 1, 2025, covered boats cannot operate on Maryland waters without carbon monoxide warning labels. This covers gasoline-powered motorboats made after July 31, 2007, with cabins, enclosed living spaces, accommodation spaces, swim platforms, or rear lounging areas. Electric-powered boats are excluded. Labels must be easy to see near both the transom (back) and helm (steering area). Maryland's Department of Natural Resources cannot penalize violations, but the labeling rule still applies.
