Maine Turnpike gets 2027 operating funds
The law sets aside $63.939259 million in Maine Turnpike Authority revenue for the calendar year ending December 31, 2027. This includes $13.581135 million for highway maintenance, $5.873267 million for equipment maintenance, and $10.025740 million for public safety and special services. It also provides $16.427811 million for fare collection and $1.888713 million for building maintenance. Administration gets $3.731645 million, and accounts and controls get $6.598288 million. A $5.812660 million contingency fund equals 10% of the $58.126599 million operating subtotal. The Authority can move contingency money to other budget items for the same year before its books close. Other transfers require money no longer needed for its original purpose and review by the Legislature’s transportation committee. For those transfers, financial statements must reach the Office of Fiscal and Program Review 30 days before the move. Statements must identify the affected accounts, amounts, transfer details, and reasons. The committee can waive advance notice for extraordinary emergency transfers. Money already committed to obligations can carry into the next calendar year, with no stated dollar limit. The Authority must also provide a statement of 2027 revenue needed for capital projects, reserves, and bond obligations. That statement lists $44.058800 million for debt service, $42 million for reserve maintenance, and $39.558032 million for capital improvements. It also lists $2.357 million for special-obligation bond debt service, bringing the total to $127.973832 million.
