Michigan lawmakers face limits on paid lobbying
Beginning January 1, 2027, Michigan state senators and representatives cannot accept extra pay for certain direct contacts with government officials. The ban covers contacts with executive- or legislative-branch officials in Michigan or any other government to influence laws or administrative actions. Pay provided by law for serving as a legislator remains allowed. A violation is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail, a fine up to $1,000, or both.
