The Michigan Tax Tribunal can appoint hearing officers to run hearings. Hearings can be by phone, video, or in person. Tribunal members can also hear and decide cases. A tribunal member reviews any proposed decision from a hearing officer before it becomes final. If a party asks, an in-person hearing can be held at a location all parties agree on and the tribunal approves.
The tribunal can hold sessions around Michigan. When it sits in a county (not in the city of Lansing), the county must provide suitable rooms and equipment if the chair asks. The tribunal must follow the Open Meetings Act and give public notice of meeting time, date, and place. Hearings must also follow Michigan’s administrative procedure rules.
